The Old Tack Room

Once this room was used to store and clean the tack and harness. It had long racks and high harness hooks along the walls. It had a window that looked out onto the back alley and a fireplace. The fire would have been lit to keep the tack dry so that it didn't go mouldy.

If you think hard you can imagine the stable men sitting around the fire every evening to keep warm while they cleaned the tack.

Can you hear them chattering in their old Devonian accents? Can you smell the saddle soap and the smoke from their pipes? Can you smell the leather?

Yes, we've got lots of work to do to repair it.......
