Jakehead.

Ted (or Jake)  is one of the new donkeys who came to Clovelly in February 2003.
He was called Jake when we got him but when we met his original owner she told us he was really called Ted .He had been through several homes and had been renamed. We like both names so we call him Jake the Ted, which gets shortened to JakeyTed.

He is devoted to his best friend Jasper, who is a spotty donkey.
He is a cool, calm guy with a hint of cheekiness - we think he is secretly teaching Jasper all the naughty tricks you can play on Humans.

Either you get your friend to take you for a walk...................

.....Or you just go to sleep and wait for something interesting to happen.

Someone might come and rub your ears for you.........

Or you could have a nice roll...........

Or go to sleep.........
pulling gate.    Or you could just open the gate and go home !

baby ted.

Jake's first owners sent us this cute picture of him as a foal. He's so cuddly you can see why he's called Ted. Also you can see his very dark ear-bars : he has the best in Clovelly.

Early Donkey Rides in the Meadow

Jake likes to get in the Tack Room if he can.

No, he's not allowed !

Here he is waiting for Peter to open the latch so he can get in.

Looks as if Bart has caught Peter doing it !

By May the donkeys are moulting their winter coats.

Jake has a very thick coat.

This is what happens when we brush him !

In June a lady came to weigh the donkeys.

With patience and treats she managed to get all the donkeys to stand on the weighbridge.

We were impressed !

Jake decided the weighbridge was fascinating and got on all by himself when the lady was outside !

Charlie joined in too.

By June Jake has mostly lost his winter woolies except for the leg warmers.

Here he is having a nice scratch on the water trough.

Dressed up in Red, White and Blue for the Royal Jubilee

We don't know why Jakey likes to sleep on the cobbles - maybe the view is good ? It must be a bit lumpy !!

agility club logo

In 2012 we joined the

International Horse Agility Club

so that we can take part in horse agility competitions.
It's similar to dog agility but with horse obstacles you can make yourself and, best of all,
we can compete from home using video recordings that we send via Youtube.

Click here for the Horse Agility Club

Click here for our Horse Agility page.

You can see our Donkeys in action in the real films we have entered for the competition.
Go to our eeore blog at www.clovellydonkeys.blogspot.co.uk and click the links to the films.

Jasper is very shy about doing the agility obstacles and Jake usually stands with him and watches.

>>>>Here's Charlie and Noah weaving off the lead while playing the 'Whoah!' game.

When we played the game in the yard both Jake and Jasper joined in!

Click here to see them in action.

We hope they will get more confident with practice and join in a bit more.
